Black women make up 6.5% of the U.S. population yet make up only 3.8% of characters on TV.

Asian or Latino men make up 11% of the U.S. population yet make up only 1.9% of characters on TV.

These statistics don’t just apply to television. They also apply to journalism.

Newsrooms need to be just as diverse to represent all backgrounds not only in race but also in religion, economic status, and more.
